Norman Lowell under investigation ‘for inciting racial hatred’
by MARK MICALLEF

Former candidate for June’s European Parliament elections and right-wing activist Norman Lowell is being investigated in connection with remarks he made recently during a meeting held in Safi, police sources told The Malta Independent.

A copy of the film footage taken during the meeting, which took place in the presence of a number of police officers, was requested by the police’s prosecution office. A transcript of what was said has already been produced and is currently being reviewed for its content.

Legal experts who saw the footage told The Malta Independent that Mr Lowell may have danced around the clause in the Maltese Constitution which lists inciting racial hatred as a crime.

He also allegedly made clearly derogatory, and most likely libellous, comments about lawyer and columnist Andrew Borg Cardona, Jesuit Refugee Services official Fr Pierre Grech Marguerat and Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina, the sources said.

oh dear, here we go again!

when are they going to nominate him for an award for maltese racial preservation?

I was at the meeting and lowell didn't break the law in my opinion. What he should be condemned for? for calling someone pizza??
What did he say about dolores cristina?? he just named her name and the croud laughed so what?

And if he danced round the law, thats what lawyers do all day in court.

I think it's just a scare tactic to try and scare people from going to Imperivm Evropa's events! It sure isn't working cos all events are overbooked and overcrowded!

Good idea -- do any of you guys have traditional folk costume? Are there any traditional folk groups in Malta -- you MUST have them come to your next meeting -- that'd rock!

malsey 14thMarch2005 21:35

maybe he would get a lm5 fine, for calling someone pizza lol

just a scare tactic. They did this with Nick Griffin in the UK. Basically if people see a leader being arrested they think that by supporting the party they will be commiting an offence. Only morons would fall for it.

Lowell at odds with the law?

He who makes the law breaks that same law to suite his or her own purpose.

Go ahead make a martyr out of him and see what free exposure he will get. The Maltese will light more candles at his photo.

Highlander 15thMarch2005 21:31

i think marco polo is right. they are just trying to scare ppl from expressing opinions outside the pn-mlp scheme.

Admin 16thMarch2005 15:07

How pathetic. Let them create a martyr. They'll find themselves under the "foundation stone" before they know what hit them.
