Black with nickname "Rockhead" shoots policeman dead without warning.

A Kirkwood, MO police sergeant died Tuesday night, several hours after being shot at an apartment complex near Interstate 44 and Big Bend Road.

Sergeant William McEntee (pictured, right), 43, a married father of three, spent some 20 years on the Kirkwood police force, in the St. Louis area, and is the first Kirkwood officer killed since 1900 in the line of duty. Kirkwood annexed the area where the killing took place in the 1990s, and some Black residents there say the neighborhood is "tense" and that they are "treated as outsiders."

The attack happened in the 300 block of Alsobrook. Sgt. McEntee was shot in the head.

Police say he was responding to a fireworks call, and was talking to a 13-year-old male. McEntee was sitting in his car talking to the teen, who was standing outside the driver's side door, when the 19-year-old Kevin Johnson (pictured, left) started shooting.

When McEntee was first hit, his car rolled forward and was stopped by a tree. Johnson then reportedly walked up to the car in full view of the crowd which had gathered, fired several more shots into McEntee at close range, took the officer's service revolver, and walked off.

Johnson's relatives say he was "overwrought" over the death of his brother from natural causes a few hours earlier, but other witnesses say he simply went into a rage upon seeing a police officer nearby, since he was wanted for a probation violation stemming from a domestic assault. Scientists say Blacks have a greater tendency toward angry, impulsive behavior than Whites or other races, and this is one of the reasons for their greater tendency to commit violent crimes.

He is still at large.
