Gentilment nitolbok sabiex igib din ir-risposta li l-Kummissarju tal-Pulizija ghamel fil-konfront ta’ kummenti mghoddija fil-program Xarabank ta’ nhar il-Gimgha 9 ta’ Gunju, 2006. Din ir-risposta intbghatet originarjament lil prezentatur tal-program is-Sur Peppi Azzopardi, skond l-Artiklu 21 Kap 248 Dwar l-Istampa.

“Il-Korp tal-Pulizija jixtieq jirreferi ghall-kummenti li saru waqt il-programm ‘Xarabank’ ta’ nhar il-Gimgha 9 ta’ Gunju, 2006 li kien kondott mis-Sur Peppi Azzopardi, fejn waqt intervent li sehh mis-Sur Kurt Gullimier fejn issemma’ l-incident li sehh fil-Kwartieri Generali tal-Pulizija nhar it-Tlieta 7 ta’ Gunju, 2006, is-Sur Azzopardi gab fid-dubju jekk dan l-incident kienx verament sehh jew le.

Il-Pulizija tixtieq tigbed l-attenzjoni li l-affarijiet graw kif gejjin:

Fid-dawl ta’ dan kollu, il-Korp tal-Pulizija jiddeplora kull kummenti li saru waqt il-programm Xarabank ta’ nhar il-Gimgha 9 ta’ Gunju, specjalment meta is-Sur Azzopardi ikkumenta li `rcievejna ammont sostanzjali ta’ telefonati jghidulna: issa dak tefaghli z-zokkor, dak tefaghlu gebla`. Fuq dan il-kumment, il-professjonalita’ titlob li jigu ccekjati l-fatti qabel jinghaddu certi kummenti. Kif indikat iktar il-fuq, il-Pulizija kienet harget stqarrija ghall-istampa, fejn irrapurtat dan l-incident bil-fatti kif tassew graw. Fil-fatt, it-team ta’ Xarabank, qeghdin ukoll fil-lista tal-gurnalisti li jircievu KULL stqarrija li tinhareg mill-Pulizija, u din l-Istqarrija ntbaghtet u giet mghoddija lir-rapprezentant tal-Programm `Xarabank` li hu rregistrat maghna, is-Sur Jean Paul Mifsud.

We, as the public demand a public apology about the misinformation and the downplaying of such a serious incident. This will never bring back the long time lost credibility of Peppi . He hates the police , after the military did their duty last year at Safi he called them Nazis. Then when he comes to provoke at right wing meetings he hides behind the shoulders of police. Peppi also said that if he had to be prime minister the first thing he does will be to remove the national flag.

An attack on our police is an attack on us as a society that pay taxes and support the police for their hard and strenious work. Eventhough we are being humiliated and discouraged to continue our democratic battle by the use of the same police force , we do not point fingures at the police who are just tools of the totalitarian opressor.We point fingures at this disrespectful government who exposes our police to diseases and risk of injury on a daily basis. (Shame on you Gonzi).

We know the vital importance of law and order and the need for the repect towards our police.
Unlike leftist and traitors we do not downplay attacks when our men in blue get hurt due to African savagery. We take it seriously since it is also an attack on one of the basic pillars of democracy. The police though should stand up on their feet to be counted and respected. They cant let this media monsters with a hidden agenda downplay their crucial work and insult them in public. The police can't continue being under a party elected minister that has a political agenda.

Police should be an independent body that saveguards the basic rights and duties of our citizens .

We know what happens when the police are under the leadership of the interior minister that is elected by the party in government... read some books and events of the 1980's.

This release confirms that the police know who is saying the truth.

Last Thursday, at the demo, Paul mentioned the police and lauded them for their efforts. I looked at them, and cannot desribe the look on their face. It was very moving.

Xarabank is just sensationalism. That's it. So it is obvious that Peppi and Co. will simply show the information that suits them.

As for showing the numbers of children who died during the last program, I thought it was:

1) irrelevant to the program
2) hypocritical of them considering that 1 30sec. advert costs at least Lm300 and they had quite a few ad breaks of around 8 mins. each. They should act on what they preach rather than preach. Qishom il-knisja.

Two more points:

1) Prosit to the guy who asked SB whether he ever went for a mission to Africa.
2) MD should get it in his head that talking bad about NL does more harm to ANR than good. He should adopt No Comment more when asked about NL.

could "the one" please check his sources? is it merely a typo with the wrong month? or was it really issued on 11th may - with the xara program being aired live on friday 8 june.

i know that the facts regarding the injured policeman are correct however i do believe the police should issue a statement correcting the date of this particular press release, if this is the case.

The Police PR statement brought to the attention of all is REAL.

Came to know that it was sent to 71 journalists/stations by the Police through their usual channels - email and fax and another PR regarding the mistake in the date was issued some time later. However it WAS signed and stamped by the officer who was on duty.

I would expect that ALL local newspapers report this PR, if not already did so. And naturally, Peppi to submit a formal apology. If he has the decency of course.
