Dear Friends,

I have decided to open this thread in order to present some of the best Rock bands I have encountered and experienced through my years in the international Rock circuit. I would love to share the following talented artists and their music with you. (Please note that I do not listen to comercial/pop music - All of the following Rock bands are only well known in the underground Rock scene - worldwide. I am in no way affiliated with any of these bands/artists listed here. My sole interest is only their music - they deserve it) FYI: I only listen to talented and cultured artists.

The following Rock Bands do come from my personal CD collection: (Some of these titles are avilable in Malta others through the internet e-stores. If you are interested in obtaining any of these titles pm me and I can direct you where to get CD's at a very low prices - usually under LM5.00 including VAT - packaging & postage)

Here goes the list: (Most of these bands do hail from EVROPA)

KLIMT1918 - http://www.klimt1918.com/ (http://www.klimt1918.com/)
This is one of those romatic Italian rock bands, formed in 1999. The musical influences can be indicated with the Swedish and English Avantgarde Metal (Anathema, Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Katatonia), the 80'ies Wave (The Cure, U2 - early years, Police, Japan, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, The Smiths) and The Beatles (years 1967 - 1970). This is one of the most bands that I do listen on a daily basis.

CROWHEAD - http://www.crowhead.com/ (http://www.crowhead.com/)
It all started around 1999 that Jo-Inge Slangsvold and Øyvind (Rym) Trinborg initiated the Norwegian project CROWHEAD. CROWHEAD's sound appeal to a rather wide audience from the Depressive Gothic listeners, to the Dark-wave fans, through any Modern Dark Electronic lover.

Forgotten Sunrise - http://www.forgottensunrise.com/ (http://www.forgottensunrise.com/)
Forgotten Sunrise was born in the summer of `92. Forgotten Sunrise sound is a mixture of styles such as trip-hop, breakbeat, techno, ebm, synthpop, shoegaze, industrial, jazz etc.

Rain Paint - http://www.rainpaint.cjb.net/
Rain Paint was born in a very strange way, back in winter 2002. These guys hail from Finland. There muis can be described as a fantastic reality made by abrasive guitars, sad melodies, liquid atmospheres... in a few words a true masterpiece of Intense Emotional Art.

Plane E - http://www.plan-e-tarium.com/ PLAN E started as an instrumental project in May 1995.

Room With A View - http://www.clubepoque.cjb.net/ (http://www.clubepoque.cjb.net/)
Rome is living a very special day. Welcome to the "Room With A View" world, a street theatre where puppets and clowns play tag and where, between a waltz step and a dream, you can travel from Trieste to Stalingrad to Salonika. There music is filled with emotions, suggestions and melodies in rapid succession, evoking the cadence of old crank little organ, in a timeless record, full of black and white snapshots.

DEINONYCHUS - http://www.deinonychus.net/ (http://www.deinonychus.net/)
Hailing from the Italian penisola, Marco Kehren is the main songwriter and composer in that dark creature called DEINONYCHUS. This is one of my fave bands that I have ever listen to. His music can be described as a real apocalyptic soundtrack of pain.

Svarrogh - http://www.svarrogh.de.vu/ (http://www.svarrogh.de.vu/)
The music of Svarrogh is Bitov Bulgarian NeoFolk Black/Death Metal with many elements of other music styles. The term Bitov is given because of the ancient, folklore topics within the music. Bitov can be translated as "Old, homeland music, traditional, folklore, bulgarian mountain life-style". The bulgarian music elements are shown by the Kaval Flute and by the Kaba Gaida (bulgarian Bagpipe). Most guitar arrangements and also some songstructures are influenced by typical bulgarian folklore arrangements.

Luna Ad Noctum - http://www.lunaadnoctum.metal.pl/ (http://www.lunaadnoctum.metal.pl/)
Luna Ad Noctum was founded in 1998 when four members: Adrian Nefarious – bass/ vocals, Tomas Infamous – guitars, Dragor Born In Flames – drums, Noctivagus – keyboards, decided to unite in Lunar covenant. Right from the start you are thrown into a blackened frenzy of razor-sharp guitars, spiteful hellish vocals, apocalyptic drumming, swathed in creeping synths. One of the greast bands that ever came out of Poland.

Advent - http://www.adventcomes.it/ (http://www.adventcomes.it/)
The band was formed towards the end of 1998 in Italy. Advent plays a refreshing blend of atmospheric black metal and progressive death metal, resulting in a unique sound. The vocals are a good mix of growls, screams and a good strong clean voice, whilst the guitar work and song structuring is technical and inventive. In my opioion Advent are one of those greast bands that ever came out of the penisola.

Flyswatter - http://www.flyswatter.de/ (http://www.flyswatter.de/)
Flyswatter hail from Germany but you could easily assume they came from New Jersey or Texas in the US due to their blend of powerful rock and poppy hardcore. Flyswatter are sure to help bring the alternative scene the attention it deserves with their unarguable integrity but downright unforgettable, accessible songs. Uplifting, melodious riffs, intelligent, direct rhythms and a soaring, catchy vocal make for a touching, driving album. Jimmy may have eaten the World but they couldn't digest Flyswatter who are more than a match for them!

Crosstide - http://www.crosstide.net/ (http://www.crosstide.net/)
Crosstide began sometime in the late 90's as a side project for 4 high school students. Crosstide's music as having the power of Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas is the Reason with the accessibility, and musicianship of Radiohead and Muse. While this may be a flattering description, it does point to some of the band's primary influences.

Rydell - http://www.rydell.co.uk/ (http://www.rydell.co.uk/)
Rydell formed in the late nineties in UK. Rydell's sound has evolved over the years but comparisons are often drawn with the likes of older GET UP KIDS for the pop element, CAP'N JAZZ for the chaos, BRAID for the indie-rock.

Cornflames - http://www.cornflames.be/ (http://www.cornflames.be/)
When Cornflames released their debut cd "…Tonight, soon or forever" back in 2000, both press, concert organisers and musicfans immediatly fell in love with this talented emorock/popnoise outfit. Their mature sound, existing out of guitardriven melodies and passionate chorusses in combination with a great gift for songwriting, impressed a whole lot of people in and outside of Belgium. Don't miss them while they rock your neighbourhood…

BRAINLESS WANKERS - http://www.brainlesswankers.de/ (http://www.brainlesswankers.de/)
Rock, not Resignation! Trumpet-fueled Punk Rock from Berlin. Germany in the year 2004. A small punk rock band from Berlin don’t stop transforming kicks in the teeth into musical creativity and spitting it back into the face of the numbed public. On this mission, the 7 guys of the BRAINLESS WANKERS use a mercilessly direct songwriting producing catchy and individual tunes without falling into the trap of interchangeability.

Andthewinneris - http://www.atwi.de/ (http://www.atwi.de/)
"the godfathers of German emo" Their music spurrs filigree-clear vocals meet guitars fuelled bypowerchords and intelligent licks, while the whole thing is pushedfurther by the tight rhythm section of bass and drums. One of the best rock bands that I have ever heard.

Well I hope that you'll enjoy some of these artists that I have introduced.

Kind regards,

Abramortiis

I agree with you up to a certain extend. But they are too comerical for me - the music industry have exploited and raped their music talents. That means that they are not releasing anymore quality music. Before they used to cater for the individual - nowadays they are catering for the masses. It spoiled them from ideas and the end result reflected in releasing cheap quality music.

A good example gave it Norman Lowel - with the local socialists parties in one of his interviews with maltafly.

May I suggest you to listen to new emerging music as its still pure and untouched. Once it will become a trend - qualitiy goes down.

Thank you for your interest in viewing my thread.

Hi Abramortiis;

We do have similar taste at what it seems. In fact I also have in my collection Klimt1918, Crosstide and Rydell. Very interesting to know that they are now available in Malta because I have many of my friends who would like to get a copy of these..., I had to buy these titles on the web however I don't regret 1 single euro I spent. Please can you send me a PM and tell me from where I can get them?

Actually Crusader, very true, i wrote metallica, remembered st. anger, and removed it. I was also to include Guns and Roses cause i like them too, but i do not include them in my greatest rock bands list. They are not that unique or innovative.

However U2, and Jethro Tull (who grabbed a grammy from Metallica :D ) should also be there. At least in my list. Forgot them.

I've been to alot of rock concerts in my time and have enjoyed them all. The loud music, the great light shows, the great stage shows and the smell burnt hasish flowing in the air. Went to my first concert in 1979 to see KISS

Here are some of the groups I've seen:

Kiss
Scorpions
Triumph
Motorhead
Iron Maiden
Ted Nugent
Slayer
Anvil
Black Sabbath
Motley Crue

The list can go on and on

Hi Guys,

Which are the local (Maltese) bands do you mostly respect and got their music CD in your collection? I have been collecting local music demos since 1994 and currently do own about 65 local demos - (one of these days I will post them here for you to witness) Malta owns a very great music scene.

These are some of the local bands I do respect:

Abysmal Torment
Achiral
Angel Blade
Angelcrypt
Anomally
Arachnid
Baptism Of Fire
Beheaded
BNI
Colorblind
Cyberia
Deluge Of Sorrow
Dripht
Forsaken
Green Piece
Knock turn Alley
Ktinodia
Lithomancy
Loathe
Martyrium
Slit
Spin
Stil Born
Subculture
The I scandal
Totema
Weeping Silence

The comercial bands are:

Bitterside
Scream Daisy
Wintermoods
Crosswalk
Miriam christine
Ira losco

Insomm hemm xeba minnhom dawn.

One of the best emerging artist that I would suggest to pay a visit is the talented Niki Gravino - this guy will make Malta proud very soon. You can check his website at www.nikigravino.com (http://www.nikigravino.com)

The worst band in Malta is "corkscrew" - they are a photocopy machine of other bands with no vision and direction.

If you like music - support your local music scene wherever you are.

Toby one of the best Dance DJ's caught 3.000 pirted music CD's at the monti hawkers! He had repoted them to the local authorities - nothing happened. Few years later they got fined some hundreds in a form of a fine.

Imma there is nothing you can do - Kids now a day can pirate music CD's at home all the time - addio all industria della music.

The music industry is changing, but that does not mean that it's dying. New kinds of music distribution have become commonplace. Musicians must embrace the new methods and not dig their heels.

Hey Einherjar! Fl-ahhar naqblu f'xi haga! I love Manowar too:D. Their music is relativly simplistic, but I find their themes inspirational. They say they are inspired by Wagner, and I don't find it hard to believe.

I don't consider St. Anger to be Metallica. They've been abducted by aliens or something before doing that album. I consider Master of Puppets and the black album to be their greatest. Anything after the black album was all downhill.

I noticed you mentioned Arachnid. I know one of the guitarists (the big guy) very well. We were to school and through uni together. The vocalist is his brother. Great guys. I remember being in his car discussing the name for their new band :). We've lost touch somewhat lately, though. You know, we developed different interests, different lifestyles..

Just saw Mark - Arachnid guitarist last Saturday and spoke to him - They are still going strong as a band. Two weeks ago they have supported a british band at signals. Arachnid are one of the most respected bands on the island. They are great guys especially the brothers who founded the band.

It's been a while since I saw him. Last time I spoke to him, he told me that he was in another band inspired by Nightwish, but I'm afraid I forgot the name. Istra, I have to get back in touch. :)

We should insist on stickter policies on piracy here in malta how can we call ourselves cultured when we allow such things happen in front of our eyes?

Yeah that is right. Totema were an excellent band - still young and heavily talented. Last time I met them, Kim the guitarist told me that they are on a break! I laughed and told him to have a kit-kat! I hope they did not disband since then!

Regarding Arachnid you can contact them through their website which is www.arachnid-web.net (http://www.arachnid-web.net/) - they will be more than happy to hear from you.
