FLORIANA, Malta (di-ve news) -- July 06, 2005 -- 1800CEST-- Early this afternoon at around 1300hrs a group of 25 illegal immigrants were brought to shore at Xatt it-Tiben by the Armed Forces of Malta.
The group of illegal immigrants are all male and it results that 20 are from Sudan, 3 from Chad, 1 from Eritrea and 1 from Palestine.
Investigations are still underway and in the hands of the Immigration Police.

L-immigranti, lkoll ta' nazzjonalita' Afrikana nstabu mitlufa fuq il-baħar wara li spiċċa l-fuel fil-makna tad-dgħajsa li kienu abbord. L-immigranti ddaħlu fil-bażi marittima ta' Haywharf fejn ngħataw f'idejn il-Pulizija ta' l-Immigrazzjoni għall-proċedura ta' identifikazzjoni u kienu immedjatament trasferiti lejn ċentru ta' detenzjoni. Matul dawn l-aħħar jiem huma madwar 450 l-immigranti li daħlu Malta, ċifra li tilħaq id-doppju tal-wasliet f'pajjiżna fl-istess perjodu s-sena li għaddiet.

More illegal immigrants brought ashore

A group of 25 illegal immigrants were brought to Maltese shores on Wednesday at around 1300 CET by the Armed Forces of Malta. The boat carrying the asylum seekers were intercepted around 70 nautical miles off Maltese coast.
According to police initial investigations, 20 are coming from Sudan, three from Chad, one from Eritrea and another from Palestine.
The illegal immigrants, all African men were found lost at sea after ending up with no fuel in the boat’s engine.
They were taken to the AFM’s maritime base at Hay Wharf, where they were interrogated by the police and then transferred to a detention centre.
Police from the Immigration Section are leading the investigations.
