SAFI, Malta (di-ve news) -- June 23, 2005 -- 2015CEST -- A small craft with 27 migrants aboard is believed to have sunk after no further contact was maintained with local and Italian authorities. When contacted by the Italian authorities, the persons aboard the craft stated that they had departed from Libya but had no idea of their position.

RCC Malta also made contact with the said craft but the persons aboard were unable to estimate their position. The satellite telephone service provider was contacted and managed to provide an approximate position of the craft. Unfortunately, in the meantime, information provided to the Italian authorities indicated that the craft was sinking. No further contact has been established with the craft and it is feared that it has sunk.

AFM maritime and air assets are now engaged in the search for this craft or any possible survivors. An AFM Islander aircraft has flown a 4-hour sortie over the search area and is presently conducting a second search. The sea in the area is calm but the visibility rather poor.

Search operations will continue until sunset at which time they will be suspended. The operation to locate possible survivors will continue tomorrow.

Earlier on Thursday, the AFM were involved in a medical evacuation of a male individual who fractured his leg while working at sea. The person was transferred from the Italian fishing vessel GAETANO to the Maltese workboat RAMSE.

An AFM ALIII helicopter was dispatched to conduct a medical evacuation of the injured person who was winched aboard the helicopter some 35 nautical miles south of Malta. The person, of Italian nationality, was transferred to St Luke's Hospital where he is receiving medical care. Ergo.

The problem is that it is a state of emergency and if you say so, they say you are alarmist, racist, nazi , bigoted and what have you....that is the tragedy of it all.
But how can our politicians be so blind or insensitive?
Cant they understand that most are not racist in the least , but realists trying to obey teh law of nature by protecting that own God-given watering-hole and keep it safe for themselves and their progeny? Basic rule of survival. We would share if we had , but we dont. When in the past, we were asked to do so in the case of the Ugandans , we helped and gladly. This is different, very different!

Up to 27 migrants feared drowned
VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news)--June 24 2005 -- 1000CEST-- A group of 27 illegal immigrants, landed in Malta early on Friday morning, bringing the total that landed so far this year to 338.

The immigrants said they hailed from the Sudan, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso. The group included three woman and four children.

Meanwhile, another group of 27 illegal immigrants are feared dead after their boat sank off the coast of Malta.

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) together with the Italian authorities continued search and rescue efforts in Malta's territorial waters.

"This morning, we continued search and rescue efforts in our territorial waters. However, the vague information provided on the boat's position and poor visibility are hampering rescue efforts", Col. Schembri told www.di-ve.com.
