International discussion on illegal migration into the EU

Professor Lino Briguglio, director of the Islands and Small States Institute, has been invited to chair a session on illegal migration into the European Union during the International Conference on Insecurity and Development to be held in Bonn between 21 and 24 September.
The event is being organised by the European Association of Development, Research and Training Institutes (EADI).
Among the keynote speakers will be the German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, the Director of the OECD Development Centre Louka Katseli, a representative of the Union of African Universities Alikagpa Sawyerr and the former leader of Kfor in Kosovo Klaus Reinhardt.
The Friday, 23 September session will be dedicated to the issue of European development cooperation.
Louis Michel, Commissioner of the European Union responsible for Development and Humanitarian Issues will be the keynote speaker.
The diverse aspects of security risks and development will be presented and discussed in the various panel discussions and thematic workshops. Six hundred top international scientists, policy-makers and representatives of non-governmental organisations are expected to attend this conference. The session that Professor Briguglio will chair will deal with the wave of legal and illegal migration from North African countries into the EU.
