POLICEMAN 'ABUSED' ARAB - SKY (http://http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13351256,00.html) http://www.sky.com/x/x.gif

A police officer alleged to have told an arrested teenager he would "smash his Arab face in" during a foul-mouthed tirade has been suspended.

The constable, aged 26, is accused of racially abusing the 16-year-old Kurdish boy, who captured the exchanges on his mobile phone voice recorder.

How convenient! how many of you go around recording cell phone conversations?

Scotland Yard said the officer, who was based at Paddington Green police station, is being investigated by the force standards unit and facing an allegation of racial harassment.

Kurdish community leaders have condemned the incident and claimed the recent emphasis on immigration has put them at an increased risk of abuse.

The teenager had been facing a charge of threatening behaviour following his arrest, but the case was thrown out after West London Youth Court was played his two-and-a-half minute recording last Friday.

maybe the above explains why he was recording his phone calls. a 16 year old they say? they teach them young.

It heard the officer apparently threaten violence, swear 18 times, and accuse the teenager of being a "robbing, rapist arsehole".

District Judge David Simpson discontinued the case against the youth and told the court: "I cannot believe anything these officers have told me.

"Currently, there's a lot of talk about respect and the lack of it. Respect is not something you get by putting on a uniform, I believe respect should be earned."

Met Police commissioner Sir Ian Blair said: "If the reports are accurate, it's outrageous behaviour and he will be put on a fast track disciplinary process.

"It's totally contrary to everything the Met Police stands for and I do not need this man in my organisation."

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "A 26-year-old Territorial Support Group officer based at Paddington was suspended from duty on May 17 pending a Directorate of Professional Standards investigation.

"This follows an allegation of racial harassment."

The youth has lived in Britain since his childhood and is now a UK citizen after his mother claimed asylum.

What's the criminal record of the youngters? Why was he arrested? Is he an untouchable?

At least here in Malta we have not reached this shameful system.

The teenager had been facing a charge of threatening behaviour following his arrest....

yes, now he's played the race card, courtesy of his cell phone and has become an untouchable. And a 26 year old policeman has lost his job and been dismissed and disgraced.

The police should pay attention not to fall in these traps. Here in Malta the soldiers should pay attention especially.

His was case was dismissed because of the recording despite threatening an officer? i.e. breaking the law

Should still have him locked up, recording or no recording, there an offense was comitted and it was instantly forgotten.

We reached this state long ago. Police officers who arested arab men red-handed in a rape have been suspended. To apprehend these alleged rapists a patrol boat had to be called in to illuminate the beach in St Julians. There were other cases as well.

The police (and army) have to be careful what to do and what to say. This will inevitably lead to a reluctance on the part of the police to enforce the law in certain cases.
