Just how these idiots’ brain works leaves me to wander how on earth these people ever got to become whoever they are?
A Socialist is always a Socialist.
How strategic thinking would one call this idea? I don't think it takes a lot of brains to come up with such an absurd idea of turning a beautiful Isle such Gozo into granny and granddad’s paradise? Surely Dr. Harry Vassallo must pulled this one out his granny's toilet.
This is the icing on the cake for AD's nonsense. hehehehe
Lets' start first that this type of market dose not exist as a massive tangible block of consumers. People who decide to retire and choose a place where to spend their last days of theirs lives, choose it because they want to not because there is such a specific place. Weighing the all the factors, such as the cost of living and the exchange rate. Their income or pension will be sufficient enough to retire in such a place?
Miami became a resting place for thousands of northern pensioners not because it was designated as such a place, but by choice of the individual. Plus the weather and the cost of living permit it to be the place of choice for Northerners in the first place.
Has Harry ever considered the extreme difference in the exchange rate - Malta pound to the major currencies? Imbecile, that's the first factor one has to take into consideration when some one plans of choosing a place to retire.
Secondly, dose Harry know that the cost of living in Gozo is much higher than Barbados?
The only realistic and reasonable way of reviving not only Toursim in Gozo but as well the whole econmoic scene, is to build the Causeway.
There is no need for cheap airlines landing in Gozo. No need for marinas, or any other one time white elephants!
And these idiots want to join another party in government? Good God spare Malta and Gozo the bloody insult.

GOZO / Malta (di-ve news)--September 03, 2006 - 1220CEST-- Alternattiva Demokratika -- the Green Party (AD) expressed a number of concerns and suggestions on the prevailing situation of tourism in Gozo, during a press conference held at the party's Gozo office in Victoria on Sunday morning.
Who are these Three Stooges?
"While the situation of the tourism industry in Malta is presently being given much attention, Gozo's situation is not being given the attention it deserves and requires," said Chairperson Dr. Harry Vassallo.
He said that there is no evidence of strategic thinking for the tourist product in Gozo, apart from haphazard proposals of "monster projects" like golf courses, and marinas that will only harm the island's medium to long term prospects.
Party spokesman on tourism, Edward Fenech explained that "tourism in Gozo is at the crossroads. Both government and opposition have no original proposals for improving tourism on the island. They are both caught up in the mistaken belief that undertaking massive infrastructural projects will save the island."
He went on to say that what Gozo really needs is a development that will differentiate the island from Malta.
Fenech made reference to Gozo's potential as a retirement centre. He said that "while a good number of expatriates already inhabit the island, a lot more could be done to attract foreigners to retire in Gozo, if funds for marketing are made available and properly spent."
AD spokesperson for Gozo, Victor Galea referred to the introduction of low-cost airlines Easyjet and Ryanair to Malta. Whilst welcoming this initiative, Mr. Galea also expressed his concern about the impact this may have on Gozo's tourism.
"There exists the possibility that the benefits from low-cost tourism will accrue almost exclusively to Malta, with Gozo picking up the crumbs."
He went on to say that there exists the possibility that because of cheap travel abroad, many Maltese will holiday in other countries and cut down on their vacations to Gozo, since the difference in cost between a holiday in Gozo and one abroad will narrow.
Dr. Vassallo concluded by saying that with the decline of tourism in Gozo, the island has become ever more dependant on tourism for Malta.
"A drop in this could be disastrous for Gozo. Innovative thinking and action are required immediately. Gozitans are sick and tired of words -- they demand action."
Obviously not yours, Dr. Harry Vassallo.
