VALLETTA, Malta (di-ve news)--June 21, 2005 -- 1340CEST--Last May, a decline of 471 persons was registered in the unemployed compared to April 2005, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO). On an annual basis, there was a decrease of 859 persons on the unemployment register.
Thus the number of unemployed individuals under Part 1 and Part 2 of the unemployment register dropped to 7,245 persons.
Of these, 79.7 per cent were men and 20.3 per cent were women. The new registrants under Part 1 of the unemployment register amounted to 190 in May 2005.
2,067 people aged 45 and over registering for work as at the end of May 2005. Of these, 1959 were registering under Part 1, whereas 108 were registering under Part 2 of the unemployment register.
834 registered unemployed were under 20 years of age. Of these, 686 were registering under Part 1, whereas
148 were registering under Part 2 of the unemployment register.
Last month there were up to 2,864 persons who were registering for work for 53 weeks and over. Of these, 2,523 were men and 341 were women.
